Looking after our park
Friends of Histon Road Rec is a community group set up by local residents to look after our local park for everyone to use and enjoy. We work with the City Council on improvements, run community events, and give local people a voice in how the Rec is shaped. Got ideas or feedback? We’d love to hear from you.
We Started With a Burnt-Down Playground. Look At Us Now.
Friends of Histon Road Rec (FoHRR) was founded 18 years ago by local residents who’d had enough of waiting. After an arson attack destroyed the playground equipment, repairs were delayed for 18 months — so a group of neighbours decided to take matters into their own hands. We’ve been looking after the Rec ever since, working with the City Council, running community events, and giving local people a real say in how the park is shaped. We’re entirely volunteer-run, and we’re always glad to hear from anyone who wants to get involved, share feedback, or simply enjoy the Rec alongside us.

Woodland working day
Help us look after the woodland and shrubby walks on the Rec, much loved by parents and children for play and exploring. We’ll be clearing overhanging briars to make the paths safer and more accessible, and building habitat structures from felled wood to attract insects, bees, and stag beetles.
Picnic in the Park
Join us for our annual Summer Picnic in the park! Bring a rug, bring some food to share, and come spend an afternoon with neighbours old and new. All welcome — kids, dogs, and good weather encouraged.
